New Chiefs coach set to go viral!

Cape Town - Steve Komphela's appointment as the head coach at Naturena is set to provide fireworks on and off the pitch next season.

Komphela has finally risen to one of the top coaching jobs in the country after spells with Free State Stars, Maritzburg United and Platinum Stars, and a short stint as Bafana Bafana caretaker coach.

Komphela is now back at the club where he once played and worked as assistant coach.

Ever philosophical, the 47-year-old coach has been known to grab the headlines with his thoughts and this phenomenon is set to reach even a bigger audience now that he has taken over as coach of the 2014/15 PSL champions.

So what can the fans expect from the new Chiefs coach?

Arguably Steve Komphela most quotable quote:

Komphela is also known for other gems like (via PSL):

"It (refereeing standards) is purely rubbish and if you go through the rubbish then you will come out stinking."- Komphela speaking after a loss to rivals Bloemfontein Celtic in October 2011

"I will go back to my famous statements...an error is an error if committed once and an error becomes suspicious if committed twice and thrice. But the minute it becomes more consistent, then it is deliberate." This one was mentioned in December 2011 after a loss to Chiefs.

"The PSL has rough seas and there are plenty of sharks, teams with strong financial muscle. We have already gone through two dangerous sharks. And on Saturday we face the Great White Shark. It will be very difficult, one has to acknowledge their strength but we confidently move to Saturday hoping that by the end of the match we will be smiling." Those were the words of Komphela ahead of his side’s Nedbank Cup semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns in May 2012.

"In football if you say we could have, we should have or we would have, it doesn’t count. It's a hard lesson you go home with. It's school fees that are just too expensive to pay, because you're playing at home and you didn’t get any points." - Those were his final words as Stars coach, spoken during a post-match television interview this past Saturday.
