Neeskens: That's more like it

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Johan Neeskens feels his players picked the perfect time to regain their form following the 3-1 victory over Santos on Sunday.

The Brazilians entered this weekend's Chloorkop encounter on the back of successive Premiership defeats, but they bounced back in style against the People's Team, with victory taking Sundowns to the top of the standings with just three games to go.

"For today (Sunday) it was important that we got the three points, and that we got back on a winning streak again," Neeskens said after the match.

Downs were gifted the opening goal as Pere Ariweriyai put past his own goalkeeper, while Nyasha Mushekwi and Hlompho Kekana both got on the score sheet for the hosts, with Eleazar Rodgers grabbing a late consolation for the Capetonians.

"I think the team played well, especially in the first half," the Dutchman added.

"In the final third, the passes were better than in our other games.

"We got a little bit of help from Santos with the first goal but then we were the much better team.

"We scored a beautiful second goal with a terrific cross and a fantastic header."

Downs' final three games will truly determine the side's championship credentials, with the Tshwane titans set to face Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, before hosting SuperSport United and rounding off the campaign at home to Free State Stars.
