Cape Town - AmaZulu striker Bongani Ndulula says having regular game time has helped him regain his confidence in front of goal.
The 24-year-old goal poacher spoke exclusively to Sport24 on Thursday after receiving the Player of the Month award at the KZN-based outfit.
“When you play regularly, your confidence comes back. I am happy that the coach gave me a chance to play, so I always do my best to return the favour to him,” said Ndulula.
“Being voted as the club’s player of the month is all about hard work. It is also about the support I get from my team-mates, for now I can’t promise anything as far as individual accolades are concerned, but I will keep doing my best to help my team,” he added.
“Drogba”, as Ndulula is affectionately known, also hailed his team-mates for the determination and the fighting spirit they have shown thus far in the season after Usuthu made a strong start by grabbing two away victories over Ajax Cape Town (2-1) and his former team, Orlando Pirates (1-0).
Ndulula was on target in that triumph against the Buccaneers.
“We didn’t start well last season. We needed a change, if you believe in yourself as a team you will make it.”
“Playing against a team like Pirates in your first game away from home was tough but I’m glad we managed to win that game”.
Ndulula did not hide his desire to don the national team jersey in future, should he continue to flourish with his tremendous form.
“Yes, everyone wants to play for his country, but it’s up to the coach to select me or not, I just have to do my part of scoring goals for my club and the rest would be up to him”
Usuthu’s next league game is against Moroka Swallows at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
