Cape Town - Maritzburg United coach Clive Barker has been reunited with Abia Nale after recruiting the attacking midfielder on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old has been without a club since he was released by Mpumalanga Black Aces during the off-season, but was recently invited to train with the Team of Choice.
Barker previously worked with Nale during their time together at AmaZayoni and was impressed enough with what he saw from the former Kaizer Chiefs player to offer him a contract.
The 71-year-old had hoped the Orlando Pirates youth product would be available for the midweek clash against Chippa United, but clearance did not come through in time, although he is expected to make his United debut at Mamelodi Sundowns next Saturday.
"We have signed him but unfortunately the clearance wasn't effective so he will only play on the 31st [against Sundowns]," Barker said after Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to the Chilli Boys.
"Abia was supposed to make his debut and he didn't get the clearance that we wanted, and he would have made a difference.
"Let's hope the hierarchy will get him signed. They say by the 31st he would able to play for us, so we hope it goes that way."
