Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates have been dealt a major blow with the news that midfielder Sifiso Myeni has been ruled out for the season due to a torn ligament.
According to the soccerladuma.co.za website, the 24-year-old was taken off in the 79th minute of Pirates’ 3-2 defeat against Moroka Swallows earlier in the week and from the minute he went down the worst was feared.
Roger de Sa, Bucs’ head coach, has now confirmed to Soccer-Laduma that the former Wits man is likely to miss the upcoming CAF Champions League game, the Soweto Derby and most probably the rest of the season.
De Sa explained, “He’s out. He’s torn a ligament, he’ll be in a cast for six weeks and then it’ll be reassessed after that. He’s likely to be out for the season. It was a tackle from behind and when he went down we said, because we know Sifiso, that if he’s staying down then it’s bad.”
The winger had a bright start to his career in Pirates colours and was being used regularly by current coach, De Sa. However he will now face a tough wait on the sidelines as he battles to recover from injury in time to help his club at the business end of the season.
