Myeni nearing Pirates debut

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates's January signing Sifiso Myeni says he only needs "five to 10 minutes" of game time to prove his worth to the Soweto juggernauts.

Myeni arrived at the Orlando Stadium in January after being snapped up from Bidvest Wits, although a knee injury has kept the attacking midfielder sidelined and training by himself.

However, the 23-year-old is nearing a return to full fitness and is expected to play some part in Pirates' Reserve League clash against Moroka Swallows at the Panorama Sports Ground in Johannesburg on Monday.

"I have been training hard on my own and am ready to feature in a competitive match. All that I need is to be given five to 10 minutes. The coaches will be impressed," he told The Sowetan.

The Sea Robbers travel to Cape Town to face Santos on Wednesday before hosting bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend, and Myeni says he has spent his entire football career gearing up for such an encounter.

"We also have the big Soweto derby coming on Saturday. I have always wanted to see myself playing in that popular fixture one day," Myeni added.

"My injury has healed, there are no more pains. I want to contribute to the success of Pirates by helping the team successfully defend the league and Nedbank Cup titles.

"It has been frustrating for me watching the games from the stands, I'm paid to play soccer."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
