Cape Town - Eric Tinkler reveals that he was pleased with the performance of Mpho Mvelase on his debut for Orlando Pirates.

Mvelase donned Pirates colours for the first time against Mpumamlanga Black Aces since joining from Chippa United in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old was not expected to start but Tinkler reveals that due to Mpho Makola having tendinitis, the caretaker coach did not want to risk the midfielder.

“He made his debut tonight because we didn't want to risk [Mpho] Makola, who has tendinitis,” said Tinkler as quoted by KickOff.

“Mvelase did well and played to the instructions. His performance was pleasing for a guy who has just come into the side like this.

“He got the crowd behind him, set up chances and got used to the tempo of the PSL game versus the friendlies. I'm very happy with him.”

A goal in each half by Oupa Manyisa and Thabo Rakhale saw Pirates take three Absa Premiership points when they defeated Black Aces 2-1 at Orlando Stadium.
