Mphela 'deserves' Euro move

Johannesburg - There have been numerous reports linking Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela with a move to Europe or Asia.

However despite all the reports, Mphela is still at Sundowns. Club president Patrice Motsepe believes its about time his star striker secures a move to Europe, but added that the former Jomo Cosmos player will only leave to join a good European league.

Motsepe says the club don't want to let him go and suffer in Europe or Asia, wasting his talent on the bench.

"I can agree with you and everyone who believes that Mphela should go. He is the best striker in the country and he deserves to play in Europe. But I won't let him go to Europe just for the sake of him going.

"As a team we want him to go to a top European club where he will be happy. The other offers we receive, the teams pay way less than we do here, so why let a player go to be paid less? There would be no logic at all. So yes we want Mphela to go but he will only do so when he goes to a good club that will pay him well," Motsepe concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
