Motsepe salutes Neeskens

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe has tipped his hat to Dutch coach Johan Neeskens as the Brazilians look to stretch their lead at the top of the Premiership standings.

"I am very happy with the job that our head coach, Johan Neeskens, is doing at the club," Motsepe said ahead of their clash with bottom feeders Jomo Cosmos in Pretoria on Sunday.

"For all the years that I have been the president of Sundowns, Johan is the best coach we have had.

"We are play exciting football and the team is getting good results."

Sundowns beat AmaZulu 1-0 in Durban midweek, extending the gap to five points over title chasers SuperSport United, Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows as the second half of the season got under way after a lengthy break.

And while Downs have been hard on coaches in the past, Motsepe was thrilled with Neeskens' efforts after he replaced Ian Gorowa, who took over on a caretaker basis following Antonio Habas Lopez's departure, at the start of the season.

"My plan is to have Johan Neeskens staying at Sundowns for a very long time," Motsepe said.

"He is doing a great job and there has to be continuity within the Sundowns technical team.

"I know in the past we have had coaches coming and going after a short time but now I hope things will change and I will give Johan full support to carry on with his job." The Brazilians were fourth last year in a close race to the Premiership title, and while they were frontrunners midway through the current campaign, Motsepe was not getting ahead of himself as his team went in search of their first title in five years.

"Any of the five top teams in the PSL stand a chance to win the league," he said.

"We are on top at the moment but it is not over yet.

"The league is not won in December and there is still a lot of work ahead in the second round."
