Motaung: We might be rusty

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung fears the side's lack of game time could play to their disadvantage when they face bitter rivals Orlando Pirates this weekend.

Amakhosi last played a professional match at the beginning of the month, with the Glamour Boys seeing off Cape Town All Stars to book their place in the Nedbank Cup last-16.

Chiefs are now set to return to action against Soweto rivals Pirates, who played against eThekwini Coastal in the last-32 on Saturday and who will face Santos in the PSL midweek.

Motaung is wary Chiefs may suffer from a few rusty hinges when they walk out at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

"It is worrying that we have not been playing for a while now, with Pirates playing Santos (on Wednesday)," Motaung told The New Age.

"But when it comes to the derby there are no excuse as it has its own dynamics. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise. We will be hungrier, but Pirates cannot be taken lightly despite what is happening with their coach."

Victory for Pirates over Santos this week would propel the Sea Robbers above Amakhosi in the PSL standings, causing more concern for the Chiefs bigwig.

He added: "Pirates beating Santos (on Wednesday) means we will be third on the log and we will go into the game on Saturday as underdogs.

"All I am saying is that the Love and Peace supporters will go home delighted on Saturday."
