'Moment of madness' cost SSU

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt admits that SuperSport United’s “moment of madness” cost them a place in the MTN8 semi-finals.

Hunt’s charges came out victorious after extra-time against Gordon Igesund’s Matsatsansta at Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday, August 4.

Following a 1-1 stalemate courtesy of goals from Sibusiso Vilakazi and Jeremy Brockie, Wits and SuperSport played an extra half-hour to settle the encounter.

However, it didn’t take long for the Students to go ahead in the quarter-final clash as goals from Daine Klate and Henrico Botes ensured Wits go through to the next round.

Both sides ended the game with 10 players on the field as Buhle Mkhwanazi was sent off for a questionable tackle on Brockie while Kingston Nkhatha again talked himself into a red card which Hunt considered as the turning point of the game.

"We started well and had our chances and had our chances, but they came back strongly in the second half and they had their moment of madness which cost them the match," said Hunt as quoted by KickOff.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
