Cape Town - Speedy Mamelodi Sundowns winger Lebohang Mokoena has been cleared to resume training by the team’s medical team.

The former Orlando Pirates ace spent the majority of last season on the sidelines after sustaining a hip injury in September.

The 26-year-old, known to his mates as "Cheeseboy", told Sundowns’ official website he is ecstatic to be back in the team.

“I’m very excited to be cleared off the injury list and I feel like a completely new player because I haven’t played football for a long time,” said Mokoena.

“I know my fitness levels and right now I’m nowhere near that but I’m putting in extra training on my legs, sometimes before and after training because I’m very determined to play for the team once again."

Mokoena’s return to fitness will pose some selection headaches for head coach Pitso Mosimane as his squad is filled with quality players, including the likes of Khama Billiat.

Billiat was recently recruited from Ajax Cape Town in a deal that included striker Eleazar Rodgers going back to the Mother City.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
