Modise: Players to blame

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns inspirational midfielder, Teko Modise believes that when younger players make the move to bigger clubs in the PSL, they only have themselves to blame if they fail, reports Soccer-Laduma website.

'The Navigator' made it no secret that it boils down to temperament and that young players get intimidated at the task of representing a big club.

“We have seen a lot of players losing direction when they get signed by the so called ‘big’ clubs in the PSL. In my opinion, I disagree with the statement. Teams do not waste talented players but it is the players that get distracted by the status of the team,” he said on his personal official website.

“Amongst all the experienced players we have in the team, there are young players that are getting the chance of a life time. Not many players get the opportunity to play for a big brand like Sundowns.

“So, in most cases you find that some young players think they are bigger than football. That is the mistake most young footballers commit.”

He also mentioned that it’s the responsibility of the experienced players to guide the youngsters in the squad and that at Chloorkop, they do just that.

“It is also the job of the senior players to guide the youngsters, so here at Sundowns we support each other in that cause. Players do not get wasted but offered opportunities to grow, " he further added.
