Urban Warriors dismiss Mobara exit talk

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town defender Abbubaker Mobara’s reported move away from the Urban Warriors to either Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates has been dismissed by a source close to the PSL club.

Although the 21-year-old man marker is interested in a move to Gauteng, a reliable source told Sport24 on Thursday that the Urban Warriors still have the player in their plans and intends to keep him at the club for next season.

“Of course Mobara will be playing for Ajax next season,” the source revealed.

“I honestly don’t understand why there is a strong link to him with a possible move away from the team.

“He is currently away with the national under-23 team and he will return to Cape Town after their game.

“He is still contracted to the team and I don’t know anything about him planning to leave.

“I can’t confirm or decline that Orlando Pirates have shown interest in him because that’s not my responsibility.

“Our CEO (Ari Efstathiou) is the one who can give you the accurate information with regards to that but he is abroad.

“So for now just know that Mobara is still our player.”

It remains to be seen where the promising young defender will be next season.
