Middendorp staying grounded

Cape Town - Free State Stars coach Ernst Middendorp refused to get carried away after the 3-0 demolition of Chippa United in his first match in charge.

The German-born tactician was roped in by the club management to break the run of poor performances.

Middendorp replaced Kinnah Phiri at the helm to lead Stars to their first win of the season in the league after three consecutive losses.

A brace from Belgian striker Andrea Fileccia and a strike by Danny Venter ensured the points haul at Goble Park.

"There were moments in the game where I felt that we could have done better and lost our concentration," Middendorp said after the match.

"The players are not yet at the level where I would like them to be, but it’s still early stages.

"It’s only the beginning and there is a lot still that I want to work with the team and philosophy that I want to implement."
