Middendorp in awe of Stars

Cape Town - Free State Stars coach Ernst Middendorp was in awe of his team after they dispatched Bidvest Wits following a 1-0 win in the Telkom Knockout first round on Saturday.

Danny Venter grabbed a stunning winner in the 70th minute to power Stars to the last eight of the cup competition.

Ea Lla Koto edged the expensively assembled Wits at Goble Park on the sunny afternoon in the tight affair that could have gone either way.

Stars were rescued by goalkeeper Dauoda Diakite after making a number of superb saves to ensure the clean-sheet.

"I would like to give a huge compliment to the team the players showed great commitment to get us this win and for that I am happy," Middendorp said.

"We have  number of youngsters who have shown hunger and a will to win. The players have really stepped up for us to get this.

"I will be smiling all the way to the quarter-finals. I am very confident in this team, if not arrogant, that we can beat any team that is put in front of us.

"It will take some times for us to get over our injuries and get back to full strength. But we will keep up the fight and continue to do our best for this club."
