Cape Town - Roger de Sa believes that goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo has what it takes to fill the void left at Orlando Pirates by the death of Senzo Meyiwa.
The 27-year-old Meyiwa was shot and killed on Sunday in what is believed to have been an attempted robbery at a residence in Vosloorus.
The passing of Meyiwa leaves Pirates and Bafana Bafana searching for a replacement for the talented shot-stopper, a daunting prospect given the manner in which Meyiwa had come to the fore in recent seasons.
Mhlongo will be vying with Philani Zikalala for a starting berth at the Buccaneers, and he has received a vote of confidence from former Sea Robbers boss De Sa.
"He does possess enough quality to feel the void," De Sa told Football411.
"I think Brighton as a goalkeeper is fantastic. I certainly hope that he can carry the weight.
"I think that’s going to be very difficult for him emotionally because they were also friends as well.
"So if anything he’s got to do it, he’s got to do it for Senzo."
Pirates will afforded extra time to decide who will succeed Meyiwa, with this weekend's Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs having been postponed.
