Cape Town - Orlando Pirates have confirmed that goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo will be available for selection when the team plays against Bidvest Wits in Johannesburg next Wednesday.

Mhlongo sustained an injury during the club's 3-3 draw in a Premiership fixture against Platinum Stars on Wednesday and was replaced during the second stanza.

However, further examinations have revealed that the injury is not as severe as was initially thought. His finger is not broken.

"He went for the scan and everything is clear. He has a swollen finger but it's not broken," Pirates' Mickey Modisane told Soccer Laduma.

Pirates will not take part in any football action at the weekend, as that has been dedicated to Nedbank Cup action. That has given Mhlongo an added opportunity to recover for the final stretch of the Premiership season.

"Since we are not playing over the weekend, it's room for him to heal and be ready for our next game which is against Wits next week Wednesday. It's good news for the team and for the player himself," added Modisane.
