Cape Town - Platinum Stars defender Benson Mhlongo says winning a cup final is a tremendous achievement in the beautiful game but also stressed that it doesn't matter who they beat to be crowned champions.
“Mayanga” spoke exclusively to Sport24 on Monday following Dikwena’s 2-1 Telkom Knockout final triumph over his former team, Orlando Pirates, at Mbombela Stadium last Saturday night.
The 31-year-old defender said all their hard work and commitment after finishing as Absa Premiership runners-up last season is finally paying off.
“Winning trophies in my career is an honour and to me it doesn’t matter who we beat in the final of each competition,” said Mhlongo.
“It’s all about hard work and I think that is why we are doing so well lately because last season we finished second on the log and we were close to winning the league.
“What am focusing on at the moment is to win silverware while am still playing and writing a good career book.
“There are lot of players around the world who can play for about 15 years without winning trophies so to me it shows that I am contributing well to the team.
“When I retire at least I will have something to show,” he added.
Mhlongo and company also defeated Pirates in the MTN8 final (3-1 on penalties) back in September.
The two sides will again clash in an Absa Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace next week Monday.
Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00.
