Meyiwa: We are ready for war

Cairo - In-form Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa says the Buccaneers are ready to battle for a semi-final spot in the CAF Champions League when they take on the Egyptian giants Zamalek in their Group A return fixture at the El Gouna Stadium in Egypt on Sunday.

The South African side humiliated the five-time African champions 4-1 at the Orlando Stadium a fortnight ago, with goals by Lennox Bacela, Tlou Segolela, Sifiso Myeni and Daine Klate.

Mahmoud Abdel Razek Fadladallah, affectionately known as “Shikabala” was on target for Zamalek on the night.

Although it's not an easy task to beat Zamalek inside their own backyard, Meyiwa, according to the Orlando Pirates website, is optimistic that the Happy People will come out with all three points and also revealed that they are well prepared for a war.

“We are prepared for war - it will be XI against XI.”

“They will come at us I know, but we are ready. We have trained well this week and we come from a morale boosting win over Kaizer Chiefs so everything is okay from our side,” Meyiwa concluded.”

Victory for Roger De Sa’s charges will guarantee them automatic qualification to the last four of the club continental showpiece.

Kick-off is at 16:00 SA time.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
