Speaking to the Dikwena’s website, Mere believes that although Stars are the current Telkom champions, the fact that United won Orlando Pirates means that the Eastern Cape side are not a team to toy with.
“Chippa United is not bread and butter and coming into this one they beat Pirates,” said Mere.
“They are confident and we look back and yes, they beat us the last time in their home ground."
“This is a different ball game; it is a cup game that we find ourselves defending. We cannot afford to lose this one also, never! We united the province, changed lives after winning this trophy.”
The Chilli Boys enjoy an unbeaten record against Dikwena, with two victories and one draw from their three matches.
Stars’ only previous home match against Chippa was a 1-1 draw in the second half of the 2012/13 season.
The teams have met once already this season, with the Eastern Cape-based side claiming a 2-0 home win on the opening weekend of the league campaign.
Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday, October 4.
