Mamelodi Sundowns have ended off the transfer window in the same way they started it – buying and selling.
The Brazilians on Monday swooped for Innocent Mdledle and at the same time agreed a termination of contract with Sibusiso Zuma.
Mdledle, a squad member at the FIFA Confederations Cup, is bought from Orlando Pirates, who have off loaded five players over the last four days in a change of direction as they now go with a trimmed down squad for the Premier Soccer League campaign.
No details are yet available on the financial terms of the deal but Mdledle had fallen out of favour over recent weeks, left out the squad as he battled with his fitness and looked to have been sidelined by Ruud Krol.
Pirates look then to have got rid of a player whose commitment was under question while Sundowns have yet another enormous talent to add to their already packed squad.
Sibusiso Zuma has kept his signing on fee worth more than R1-million and been paid three month’s wages, worth a further R1-million, but is no longer a Sundowns player.
Zuma had been placed on the transfer list by Sundowns in May but here were no clubs interested in signing him, even remotely near the same wages that Patrice Motsepe was paying him.
The Sundowns owner spent more than R4-million on Zuma last season, but his rewards was a paltry 11 appearances in League and Cup football and just two goals. Each worked out at R3-milion each, making it yet another poor piece of business by Motsepe.
Zuma, now 34, is now a free agent and will be available to other PSL clubs, even after the closure of the transfer window on Monday because he is out of contract.
It is expected he will snapped up quickly, but only if his wage demands are drastically reduced.
