Cape Town - Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba has revealed that big-spending Mamelodi Sundowns had attempted to poach him last year.
In October 2014, with just a few months remaining on his deal in Soweto, the full-back said he was faced with a big-money offer from the Brazilians, who have been known admirers of the South Africa international.
Matlaba, though, eventually signed a five-year extension with Pirates, and insists he has never looked back.
"If I'm honest with you, yes, they (Sundowns) did contact me about joining them, but what I told myself was to give Pirates what they wanted, which was to stay with them," Matlaba told Soccer Laduma.
"I'd never thought one day I'd leave Pirates. I decided that as long as they give me what I want, I'll stay.
"We never gave each other problems and I signed a new contract. I never thought of leaving. If you think about leaving, it'll disturb you."
