According Soccer Laduma, Bafana Bafana defender Thabo Matlaba has inked a new five-year deal with Orlando Pirates.

Initial reports were that while the left back was in the final year of his contract with the Sea Robbers, he was still ready to wait a while longer before signing a new deal.

Matlaba was linked with a move to arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs or the big spending Mamelodi Sundowns but those rumours have been put to bed following Matlaba's decision to stay at Pirates.

Matlaba is expected to miss this weekend's Telkom Knockout clash against Ajax Cape Town when the two sides fight for a place in the last four of the competition.

The defender is still struggling to overcome an Achilles tendon injury which he picked up on duty with Bafana Bafana.

Ajax Cape Town visit the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, October 25. Kick-off is at 20:15.
