Masinga impressed by Komphela's Chiefs

Cape Town - Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Jomo Cosmos striker Phil Masinga said that he has been impressed with the quality of football that Kaizer Chiefs have been playing as the season progresses.

Masinga who enjoyed a lengthy international football career and his youth with Amakhosi said that Steve Komphela has been applying a great coaching philosophy to the team and feels that the players need to adapt and give him a chance to prove his abilities.

The veteran striker told Sport24 that although Bloemfontein Celtic coach, Clinton Larsen should not be underestimated, he feels they will struggle against Amakhosi as cup competitions are their strong point.

“So far good, since they brought in Steve Komphela and he has definitely been applying his philosophy very well,” he said.

“The only thing that the players need to adapt to it and give the coach a chance, otherwise they have been playing well.

“I think Clinton on introducing his new, young players is working out for him and I must say that he is one of the best coaches, and of the youngest coaches.

“Everybody in the team (both) wants to achieve various goals and that really motivates the team.

“I really wish both teams all the best as they take on this match.

“We know Chiefs are very strong when it comes to cup competitions; which will make it difficult for Celtic of which they will have to dig deep and come up with other strategies if they really want to make it through.

“On the other hand we shouldn’t underestimate Larsen and his boys, they can really have tricks up their sleeves, but Chiefs will have this one.”

Amakhosi will play against Bloem Celtic at FNB stadium on Saturday night, August 29.

Kick-off set for 20:15
