Mashego staying patient at 'Downs

Cape Town - Even though Katlego Mashego has been on the field for less than four hours for Mamelodi Sundowns this season, the forward isn't sulking.

Instead, he is making the most of the few minutes he is given on the field. He came in the 89th minute against Free State Stars to come up with one of the goals in the 6-1 drubbing of Ea Lla Koto.

That victory saw Sundowns advance to the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout where they face Tshwane arch-rivals SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

"This is part of the game," Mashego told Vodacom Soccer.

"I just have to keep my head high and do my job. I know that my time will come.

"In the meantime I have to maximise every opportunity that I am given.

"I have to go out there and deliver because there is strong competition for a place in the starting XI.

"If I sulk because I am not getting enough game time, then I won't be able to do my job whenever I am called up on the pitch."

Mashego will fight for a place in the starting XI in the Tshwane derby. Both teams are enjoying a good spell with Matsatsantsa unbeaten in their last six games while the Brazilians have gone on an eight-match unbeaten streak.

"Both teams are in a good space so it will be an open and an exciting match," Mashego added. "But we want it more. We were disappointed in missing out on the MTN8.

"Now that we are on match away from being in the final, our heads are in the right place and we want something to show for this good form that we're in."

Kick-off is at 20:00.
