Cape Town - Free State Stars midfielder Paulus Masehe thinks that his side can upset the applecart during this year’s Telkom Knockout campaign.
Preview: SuperSport United v Free State Stars
Free State Stars start the tournament with a trip to the Lucas Moripe Stadium, where they will play against SuperSport United on Saturday.
While SuperSport are still a team in transition, the fixture is by no means a straightforward one for the visitors and Masehe said his team-mates will be out to make an important statement against Gordon Igesund’s charges.
“The Telkom Knockout is a cup that any team can win. That means we all have a chance to compete and an equal chance of lifting the silverware,” Masehe told the club’s website on Wednesday.
“We as a team are looking to make the best out of this year’s campaign. We want to go all out and leave no stone unturned.
“It only takes four games to become champions of this competition. You win the round of 16, then the quarter-final, semi-final and the final. It is possible.”
Masehe said that confidence would not be a factor for the Free State squad, as they had achieved relative success this season already. There is no reason for him to believe that those fortunes will change overnight.
“The boys are confident and inspired to win. The team spirit is high and all of us are looking forward to the competition," he said.
“Lucas Moripe will be a war zone on Saturday because we want to win and I know that they also want the same result."
