Maritzburg will be competitive - Ncikazi

Cape Town - Maritzburg United head coach Mandla Ncikazi admits he has a tough task filling Steve Komphela's shoes at the club, but has confidence in his ability.

Komphela led Maritzburg to their first ever top-eight finish in the Premiership last season before he left the club to take over from Stuart Baxter as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs.

Ncikazi took over the role left vacant by the departure of Komphela and is fully aware of the expectations being placed on him after the team's success last term.

He joked with Soccer Laduma: "Steve Komphela wears a size 13 and I wear a size nine! Can you imagine the difference?"

"It's a big challenge for me because I'm following such a professional coach and humble person, such a diligent and hard-working human being, now I have to fill in his shoes.

"I don't have any doubt of my own capacity, I'm working with a very good technical team and have players giving me full support. Management are supporting me and trying to give us the players we require. I'm highly confident that the team will be very competitive."

As fate would have it, the Team of Choice were drawn against Chiefs in the first round of the MTN8 competition and the teams will meet at FNB Stadium August 5.
