Maritzburg to halt SSU run

Cape Town - SuperSport United will look to continue their great form in the Absa Premiership when they host Maritzburg United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

SuperSport have racked up three straight league wins since Gordon took over Cavin Johnson with their last outing a 3-0 away win over local rivals University of Pretoria.

The Tshwane side has claimed nine points from a possible 15 at home this season.

Their next three league opponents are Ajax Cape Town, Moroka Swallows (both away) and Orlando Pirates (home).

Matsatsantsa are placed seventh on the Absa Premiership log with 12 points from eight matches.

Maritzburg broke a three game winless streak in the league when they defeated Platinum Stars 3-1 at home.

The KwaZulu-Natal team has claimed two points from their four away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are University of Pretoria, Bloemfontein Celtic (both home) and Ajax Cape Town (away).

Steve Komphela’s side are placed eighth on the PSL log with 12 points from eight matches.

In head-to-head stats, SuperSport and Maritzburg have met in 16 league matches since 2005/06.

Matsatsantsa have claimed eight wins compared to just one for the Team of Choice, while seven matches have been drawn.

SuperSport have won five of their home matches against Maritzburg down the years, suffering just one defeat in the process.

Last season Matsatsantsa won 1-0 in Pietermaritzburg, but the KwaZulu-Natal team won 3-1 in Pretoria for their first victory in the rivalry.
