Cape Town - Premier Soccer League (PSL) strugglers Maritzburg United have announced the termination of coach Clinton Larsen’s contract.
The Team of Choice confirmed the news via their official website on Friday.
Chairperson Farook Kadodia informed Larsen's business manager Mike Makaab on December 18 of the club's intention and as a matter of formality this became effective after the match against Mamelodi Sundowns on December 20, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
"The board has cited the string of poor results where Larsen achieved five out of 27 points during his short spell at the club," said Kadodia.
"It was clear that Larsen would not achieve his targeted objective in his contract of reaching the top 8 at the end of the season."
“Larsen joined the Team of Choice after they had played six matches and were sitting in the top 8 with 8 points, struggling to maintain their position whilst only achieving one win in nine matches. The club are in the process of appointing a new head coach who will be announced by next week,” concluded Kadodia.
United currently find themselves three points off the bottom of the table and in a relegation scrap.
