Cape Town - Maritzburg United moved into the Top 8 after a smash-and-grab 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium on Sunday.

Kurt Lentjies scored what turned out to be the winning goal for the Team of Choice in the seventh minute with the first shot of the game.

Keegan Ritchie gave away a free-kick for an unfair challenge on Mohammed Anas in a dangerous position.

The visitors took full advantage of the resulting set-piece as Deolin Mekoa delivered the ball in for Lentjies, who finished calmly with his right foot.

After the goal, Maritzburg looked happy to defend their lead, while Celtic pushed hard for a win, creating a fairly uneven looking game.

Phunya Sele Sele launched wave after wave of attack with little success through a combination of good defending and wasteful finishing, as the Bloemfontein outfit only hit the target with two of their 13 shots on goal.

As the game wore on Siwelele became increasingly desperate to find and equaliser and began to pile a huge amount of pressure on the opponents' penalty area.

However, Maritzburg defended their lead staunchly, eventually committing as many as 15 fouls.
