Maritzburg hold onto Komphela

Pietermaritzburg - Steve Komphela will remain at the helm of Maritzburg United for two more seasons, the PSL club has confirmed on Tuesday.

United’s PRO Brian Zuma has told Sport24 in an exclusive interview that the former Platinum Stars and Free State Stars mentor has committed his future to the Team of choice despite the internal conflicts towards the end of last season.

Zuma also confirmed that Komphela and his charges have begun with their preparations for the upcoming season already.

"Steve (Komphela) is committed to the club,"' Zuma told Sport24.

"All internal conflicts have been resolved so we are moving on as a team.

"He is currently busy with the team as we speak at training.

"We have already started with our pre-season training and he is in charge of all the sessions.

"He has decided to honour his contract with Maritzburg United.

"He is still left with two more years in his contract."

Komphela, 47, joined the Team of Choice following the departure of Clinton Larsen midway through the 2013/14 PSL season.

Zuma also confirmed that they have acquired the services of Kwanda Mngonyana and Sibusiso Khumalo both on a season long-loan from Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the 2014/15 season.

"So far we have signed Kwanda Mngonyana and Sibusiso Khumalo on loan from Sundowns."

"The duo will be with us for the whole season.

"But we will unveil more players before the end of the week as well," concluded Zuma.

Maritzburg have also signed former Fulham and Ghana international John Pantsil after he was reportedly training with Chippa United last week.
