Maritzburg down Matsatsantsa

Pretoria - Goals from Heinrich Isaacks, David Booysen and Terrance Mandaza have secured Maritzburg United’s first league win over SuperSport United in 16 meetings between the two sides since the 2005/2006 season.

The Team of Choice came from behind to beat Matsatsantsa 3-1 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.  Bradly Grobler opened the scoring for the hosts.

The game got off to a flying start with Orlando Smeekes missing a sitter before Bradley Grobler opened the scoring a minute later.

Ronwen Williams failed dismally in his attempt to clear from danger from outside his area, Smeekes was quick to pounce on the loose ball but the Maritzburg winger somehow guided his effort wide with an open net lurking.

Smeekes immediately felt the effect of his miss as Grobler produced an exquisite first time finish from a Thuso Phala cross to open the scoring in the seventh minute, 1-0.

Enocent Mkhabela’s powerful effort from range was superbly kept out by Virgil Vries before Isaacks levelled matters in the 22nd minute.

Neat inter-play by Ashley Hartog and Kurt Lentjies presented the midfielder with a tap in, he duly obliged, nodding in to square things up.

David Booysen completed the old 1-2 five minutes later. The Team of Choice centre back latched onto a precise corner-kick by Bongolethu Jayiya  to give the visitors the lead at the break.

The hosts squandered a procession of chances before Mandaza wrapped things up in the 84th minute.

The Maritzburg forward played a neat one-two with Hartog before slipping the ball past Williams.
