Maritzburg chase first PSL win

Cape Town - Maritzburg United will target their first Absa Premiership win of the season when they host Free State Stars at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Maritzburg suffered a third successive league loss when they were beaten 2-0 at home by Bloemfontein Celtic on September 12.

The Pietermaritzburg team has claimed just one point from their two home matches so far this season.

The Team of Choice is placed 16th on the Absa Premiership log with one point from four matches.

Stars claimed their first win of the season when they defeated Chippa United 3-0 at home on September 12.

The Free State side has lost both of their away matches so far this league campaign.

Ea Lla Koto are placed 14th on the Absa Premiership log with three points from four matches.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and Stars have met in 16 league matches since 2005/06.

Ea Lla Koto have six wins compared to one for the Team of Choice, while nine matches have been drawn.

Maritzburg have won one of their eight home matches against Stars, suffering two defeats in the process.

Last season the teams played to successive draws: 1-1 in the Free State and 0-0 in the return game in KwaZulu-Natal.

Prior to last season’s two draws, the teams had played to just one stalemate in their last eight league encounters.

Kick-off is at 19:30 on Tuesday, September 22.
