Maponyane criticises Pirates star

Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana striker Marks Maponyane has criticised Orlando Pirates star Thabo Rakhale, saying his skills are not effective enough.

Maponyane never holds back when giving his opinion on the issues or trends of South African football and Rakhale’s now famous ‘yoyo skill’ is indeed the latest trend.

Speaking to Sport24, Maponyane bemoaned the loss of skilful but effective players in the current South African game.

“The last player that I saw expressing himself to the fullest, and the fans will not like this, was Jabu Mahlangu.

“I have a problem with this youngster from Pirates… Rakhale,” he told Sport24.

“All those spinning balls and all these things that he does, they are not effective. You must come up with a skill that is meant to benefit the team, but the guy just ‘goois’ (throws) the ball and it spins back to him then he swings his hands, and you think … ‘what is this?’”

“That’s when I feel very conservative and think ‘na I’m not going to scream for this’.”

Whether or not you agree with Maponyane about Rakhale, he was right on one account - some fans will not be happy.
