Makola clarifies new Bucs deal

Cape Town - Confusion has been thrown over Mpho Makola’s new deal at Orlando Pirates with a club official denying reports of a new contract, however, all parties agree that the player is contracted to the club for at least the next two years.

Various media reports in recent weeks stated that Mpho ‘Bibo’ Makola had signed a new three-year contract at Orlando Pirates but the club official said that the player still has two years left on his old deal.

The confusion appears to have arisen due to the fact that Makola and the club had agreed upon a new deal a while before the media picked up on it.

Sport24 spoke to both the player and his mentor, Harold ‘Jazzy Queen’ Legodi, and can confirm that the player has indeed signed on at the club for another three years.

“How can I have two years left on my contract that I signed in 2012, does that mean I signed a 5-year contract?” Makola asked.

“I signed in 2012 on a three-year contract and it finished in June and then I signed a three-year contract.”

Legodi has also told Sport24 that the midfielder has extended his stay at Pirates for another three years.

“He has signed a deal with Pirates for three years with the option to extend for two years,” ‘Jazzy Queen’ said.

“He signed a new deal months back, before the end of the season, he signed first then Oupa signed after.”
