Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola has urged his team-mates to target a second-placed finish and qualify for next season's CAF Champions League.

The task is easier said than done, however, as Pirates will need to overtake in-form Mamelodi Sundowns, who have only lost one of their last 15 games in all competitions.

The Buccaneers are only three points behind the Brazilians, but have played one more game.

Ahead of the midweek encounter with Mpumalanga Black Aces at Orlando Stadium, Makola has called on his team to try and win every match between now and the end of the campaign to ensure they have the best chance of reaching their aim.

"We want to play in next year's Champions League and we know it won't come by itself, it will need us to play our part," the playmaker said.

"The players who've tasted African football are hungry for more football at that level, including myself.

"However in order for us to get there we need to win our matches, starting with Aces.

"We want a top two finish in the league as to which position in the top two, only time will tell, however, Champions League is what we are fighting for."
