Makola: I'm happy to fight for a spot

Cape Town - Mpho Makola found himself behind Sifiso Myeni and Thabo Rakhale for a starting berth on the wing in Orlando Pirates' loss to Zamalek on Saturday but he is more than happy to fight for his spot.

‘Bibo’ came off the bench against the Egyptian Giants after being a first choice player for most of last season and believes that the competition for places can only be good for the team.

“I played a lot of games prior to me being suspended and I think the guys who came in for me did a really good job, they won two games while I was on the bench,” he told Sport24.

The ex-Free State Stars wide-player believes that the Buccaneers are well equipped to compete in the upcoming PSL season despite hardly getting any rest during the off-season.

“We have got depth in the team, we have good quality players so that will play an important role whenever fatigue kicks in, or with injuries and suspensions."

Makola recently signed a new three-year deal with the Soweto Giants along with Oupa Manyisa.

Many football analysts believe that it was a good move for the club to secure the contract extensions of two of their top players before looking at any possible new signings.
