Durban - Despite his positive contribution since joining the team in the January transfer window, veteran AmaZulu defender Mbulelo Mabizela has declined to take all the credit.

Mabizela has been on top of his game in recent times, which has helped Usuthu in their quest to survive in the PSL.

“Old John” grabbed his fourth goal in seven games when AmaZulu defeated Free State Stars 1-0 in a relegation battle at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last Saturday.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player said his team-mates are eager to move out of the relegation zone.

“We are doing very well at the moment because we are picking up points and going forward,” said Mabizela.

“I think at this stage of the season it is very vital for us to keep winning because we are trying to catch up on teams that are above us.

“I think I must not take all the credit alone because everyone is focused and doing well for the club.

“Everyone is recognising the situation which we find ourselves in at the moment.

“Everyone is coming to the party and we’ll just take it one game at a time and see how it will go.”

A win for Usuthu reduced the deficit to two points, behind Free State Stars and Moroka Swallows, at the bottom of the log.

They will face Kaizer Chiefs in their next league instalment at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.
