Mabena relishing new lifeline

Pretoria - Following their 2-1 triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, Platinum Stars striker Ndumiso Mabena said he is settling in very well at his new club following a move from Orlando Pirates in the off-season.

The 27-year-old forward was on target for Dikwena on his debut when the defending champions eliminated the Brazilians from the MTN8 quarter-finals at Loftus Versfeld.

Mabena and club skipper Vuyo Mere's goals were enough to see the North West Tycoons advance to the semi-finals of the Wafa-Wafa competition.

“It’s a great feeling to score for your new club,” said Mabena, who spent five seasons with the Soweto giants before joining Stars.

“I really enjoyed the game, after being on the sidelines for a long time. We have been working hard during the pre-season and I am now settling in very well here.

“I played exactly how the coach wanted me to play. There is a lot of competition in every department here. But I am happy that I managed to get some game time today (Saturday). And I am looking forward to having a great season set to start this Friday.”

Stars’ opening game of the 2014/15 ABSA Premiership will be away to newly promoted side, Chippa United, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.

Kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
