Lentjies targets top eight

Cape Town - Maritzburg United midfielder Kurt Lentjies is still confident about his club's prospects of finishing among the top eight in the Premiership, even though there is considerable pressure being put on the club by SuperSport United, Pretoria University and even Mpumalanga Black Aces.

When 2015 started Maritzburg United encountered considerable adversity, which saw the club drop several places in the Premiership standings.

However, consecutive wins against Chiefs and Platinum Stars has sparked a reversal of fortunes for the Maritzburg club, which has now moved as high as eighth in the league standings.

“So far so good. I have been playing well, although I haven't played in all the games,” Lentjies told goal.com.

"We have been through a rough patch lately, but we have managed to bounce back and the guys are all fired up to make the final push that will see us end the season well and where we want to be which is the top eight."

The Maritzburg United midfielder has featured in 22 Premiership matches for the club this season and has breached opposition defences twice during that period. However, he refuses to get ahead of himself just yet, insisting that his teammates are simply taking things one game at a time.

"We are taking each game as it comes. We have seven games remaining and we intend seeing them out efficiently," added Lentjies.

"We have a good squad that is nicely balanced offensively and defensively and we will reach the top eight come end of the season."

The next assignment for Maritzburg United will be a Premiership fixture against SuperSport United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on April 4.
