Lengthy layoff for Mphela

Cape Town - Stuart Baxter has revealed that it would take a long while for Katlego ‘Killer’ Mphela to be match fit again.

According to goal.com, Baxter admits that Mphela’s readiness as to when he will start playing again is unknown.

"Killer has not been able to train regularly during this mid-season break. He has been hit by two bouts of flu. He is nowhere near match-fit. I don't know when he will be ready to play,” said the Chiefs coach.

“It's a worry as I am short of a striker with Chiefs playing in three competitions. I need to keep the balance of my side.”

Chiefs did secure the services of David Zulu but Baxter sees the former Chippa United forward more as a "number 10" and with Kingston Nkhatha also out of the picture Baxter feels he is short of a striker.

“Zulu is more like a number 10, similar to Bernard Parker, so I was hoping Killer would fill in at centre forward, but that won't happen in the near future," Baxter said.
