Lebese hails Baxter effect

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Lebese says he has no intention of letting his chance to impress Stuart Baxter go as he looks to hold down a regular role.

According to footbal411.com website, the 23-year-old playmaker has been one of Amakhosi's stand-out players in the middle of the park this season, and was rewarded for his efforts with a call-up to Bafana Bafana for the friendly against Poland last month.

Lebese has revealed the faith shown in him by the Chiefs coach is the reason behind his renewed form, and he is hoping to continue his run as the Glamour Boys aim for PSL glory this term.

"(Baxter) is a coach that believes in me and believes that I have something to offer for the team," he told the club's official website.

"I am grateful for the chance. I am just working hard and want to prove the Coach right, and produce every time I am given a chance.

"He spoke to me about areas I needed to improve for my game. He spoke to me a lot about my defending and I think I am defending quite better now.

"He also brought a spirit of teamwork for us to win games. We enjoy working with him as the players. The atmosphere is really good in the team right now."

Lebese insists his focus is primarily on Chiefs at the moment, but with the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations just around the corner, he admits his mind is starting to drift toward the continental showpiece and his possible inclusion for South Africa.

"I am focusing on doing well for Chiefs but I have to admit, I am looking at it with one eye," he added.

"I would like to be part of the South African team that participates in the tournament but I am not getting ahead of myself."
