Komphela praises 'keepers

Cape Town - Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela has praised the contribution of goalkeepers Shu-aib Walters and Virgil Vries to the club's cause this season.

Walters kept a crucial clean sheet on Tuesday night as Maritzburg clinched a 1-0 victory over Ajax Cape Town, and Komphela was pleased with the player's showing in goal.

However, he also singled out Vries for praise, saying that both players have been playing consistently well.

Reflecting on the midweek victory over the Urban Warriors, Komphela told the club's official website: "Any three points at this stage are important, even if it was a smash and grab.

"To me, I would have accepted a draw. Deserved, but in inverted commas."

He added: "Sometimes we perform well and don't get the result. You don't play that well, but you get a result, you still say it's not working.

"There's matches where we have performed unbelievably well and didn't get anything.

"And testament to [the win over Ajax] is Shu-aib being Man of the Match. He put in a great performance, lots of one on ones.

"He is a top professional, he trains very well, and is very experienced. And so is Virgil - before Shu-aib was playing consistently, so was Virgil - there's no distinction, no difference, and I'm happy that he came after a long time and performed well."
