Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela believes the side has improved with every pre-season match despite losing to Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
Chiefs poor record in the Carling Black Label Cup continued at the weekend as Chiefs lost for the fourth time in five years of the competition and for the third time on penalties.
The loss followed a defeat at the hands Mbabane Swallows in the King's Super Cup during their pre-season tour of Swaziland, but Komphela is confident the team is getting better.
It was Komphela's first experience of the Soweto Derby after joining Chiefs just over a month ago and, while he was not pleased to lose the match, he is satisfied with the progress he has seen from the squad during his time in charge.
"If you look at the way we started in the pre-season then you can say the graph has gone up," he told Soccer Laduma.
"We have played some friendly games and we are improving with each game they we are playing.
"The players are understanding each other and we are all understanding each other which is good for the team."
Amakhosi host Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium in the MTN8 competition on Wednesday in Komphela's first competitive game since taking charge of the club.
Kick-off is 19:30.
