Cape Town - Ted Dumitru says that he is surprised that Kaizer Chiefs have appointed Steve Komphela after years of avoiding working with local coaches.

The last local coach to be appointed full time at Chiefs was Trott Moloto in 1994, but despite his surprise Dumitru said that he also thought it was a wise move.
“Well it comes with a bit of surprise.”
“I know Kaizer Motaung pretty well and I know his opinion about local coaches. Not that local coaches are incompetent but they are not given enough opportunities to learn.
“Overall it is a better move than anything else.
“I haven’t worked with him before that’s why I can’t say too much about his quality as a coach.”
Dumitru suggested that Komphela would be a good replacement to carry on the work that was started by Baxter due to his experience having worked under the Scotsman at Bafana.
“He was the assistant to Baxter (at Bafana), so I assume for a while he is going to continue the things that Baxter implemented and then he is going to shift to his own ideas.”
