Komphela: It's about preference and choices

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela opens up about his rotation policies surrounding his central defenders.

According to KickOff, Komphela has been rotating his centre-backs in order to find the perfect combination.

Siyanda Xulu alongside Eric Mathoho have been partnered together on ten occasions in all competitions for Amakhosi.

Xulu, a former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, has also been paired with Ivan Bukenya and Lorenzo Gordinho.

However, this past weekend against Ajax Cape Town, Komphela shifted Bukenya alongside Mathoho in their 1-1 Absa Premiership clash.

“Players are different and if you make that as a reference you will be saying Mathoho was there [MTN8 Final] and he was also available for this one, Xulu in that match and Bukenya against Ajax,” Komphela said.

“Bukenya and Xulu are different because that is where the comparison would be just in terms of physical presence. But there are other elements where Xulu gets ahead of Bukenya which we know in our camp.

“Apart from individual analysis, the comfort and cohesion or the understanding, telepathy when you compare combination of Xulu- Mathoho, or Mathoho-Bukenya, it is still fine, it’s not a train smash and we’re comfortable.

“It’s just a question of preference and choices.”
