Cape Town - Itumeleng Khune has called on the Kaizer Chiefs supporters to get behind the team as the pressure mounts from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi lost 1-0 to Maritzburg United on Wednesday night, their second league defeat in four games, while Sundowns hammered Polokwane City 5-0 to move to within eight points of the league leaders, and with a game in hand.

Looking to avoid a repeat of last season, when Sundowns clawed their way back from an 11-point deficit to take the title out of Chiefs' grasp, Khune has called on the Soweto side’s supporters to get fully behind the team as they prepare for their final seven league games of the campaign.

"We have to lift ourselves. We've got a tough run of fixtures coming up. We really need our 12th man to keep rallying behind the team," Khune stated via his Twitter account.

"Your support is very important in times like this," he continued.

"Let's stay positive. We'll bounce back very strong in our next match. All is not lost."
