Caep Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune claims his situation was misrepresented in the press during recent contract negotiations with the club.
The 28-year-old appeared to be heading for the Naturena exit in the off-season after contract negotiations between the club and Khune broke down.
Khune was also tipped to make a move abroad but a transfer never materialised, leaving the shot-stopper without a club on the eve of the new Absa Premiership campaign.
However, Khune eventually reached an agreement with Amakhosi before returning to the starting line-up in the goalless draw with 10-man Chippa United on Sunday.
"I never left," Khune told reporters.
"I think people misinterpreted the whole situation.
"Negotiations are negotiations, and if we don't agree, obviously we would give each other space and time to think about the future, and that's what the club did.
"Back in 2009, I was in the similar situation. It wasn't in the media and it wasn't blown out of proportion because I was representing my country in the Confed Cup, and when I came back I signed my contract just before pre-season. So, I was in the similar situation.
"I think someone leaked the information and the media took it into their own hands and blew everything out of proportion, but I remained calm because I knew none of what they were writing about me was true."
