Khune kicks off moonboot

Cape Town - The Glamour Boys are getting ready to welcome back one of their favourite sons from the sidelines, goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has been struck down by a heel injury since the beginning of September but it appears he is nearing a return to full fitness.

The extent of Khune's injury was revealed when he was called up to the Bafana Bafana ahead of the AFCON qualifier against Sudan. South Africa team doctor Thulani Ngwenya disclosed that Khune has a grade 3 stress fracture in his foot and would be out of action for at least six weeks.

Sport24 reported in October that coach Stuart Baxter warned Khune that he will have to battle Brilliant Khuzwayo to get the number one spot back.

"It is going to be a while for him to get his fitness back and then it will be a battle for him to see if he can get back in the team,” said the Amakhosi boss.

“He's going to have to dislodge the two guys who are there now."

Khune tweeted this picture yesterday, revealing that is edging closer to a return:
